KEHS is the best school to be,
With all your lessons filled with glee.
We’re all having fun,
And running in the sun,
Lovely places to see.
KEHS is an excellent school,
Aren’t we all so cool?
We learn how to write,
Learn everything in delight.
We have a swimming pool!

Father’s Day was on the 20th of June and I really want this day to be special for my Dad because last year he didn’t really like his presents so this year I really made a special effort. I bought him a very big card from Sutton town centre and a dressing gown because by dog ripped his old one when he was a puppy. I hope my Dad enjoyed Father’s day because he deserved it.

On Thursday 1st July, KEHS are holding their very own Open Evening! This gives the opportunity from girls all around the area to see our school so that they have a feel about what KEHS is all about. It starts from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. We don’t get to come into school in the morning, but we come in the evening instead. I’m really looking forward to it because we all get really exciting jobs to do whilst all the parents and their daughters look around and learn more about KEHS.
Are you excited?

I’m not sure if you know or not but from today there are only 8 days left of school (not including weekends!) 2 months of pure summer weather , waterslides , barbeques , trampoline , sleepovers , camping , holidays , the lot… I haven’t been counting down but it occurred to me this morning when me and all my friends were discussing it.
I am quite excited to go on holiday as we normally go to France for 6 weeks to our house near Montpellier. But instead this year my new born cousin is coming over from Australia with his sister Tilly and my uncle and auntie. This I am excited about as he is only roughly 6 weeks old…
We have been sent many photos of him and he is GORGEOUS!!!
What are you doing in your holidays?

This book is all about a group of boys that have survived in a plane crash on a small uninhabited island, without any contact with the main land. They learn to work together to create a well-organised community and to live without the daily necessities at home. However, their plans and the surfacing of their true nature is what will destroy their community.
The main characters are a young boy nicknamed Piggy, Jack, Ralph and the choir boys.
This book is a very moving and sad and really shows the true nature of mankind. I would recommend this book to any one who likes Robinson Crusoe and other such books.

My form, 3S, did an assembly on ‘Animal Cruelty’. I know this is quite a touchy subject and there are many opinions about it but we had a go and it went quite well in my opinion.
We tried talking about the things not many people would know about in this topic. For example, we talked about the far distances animals such as sheep and pigs have to travel before being killed for food in appalling conditions and how not only animals like tigers and leopards are killed for fur coats but so are domestic dogs and cats. Cat and dog meat is eaten in places like China, Thailand and the Philippines and are killed harshly as a way to improve their flavour and texture.
I am not a vegetarian, in fact I quite like meat. Even though I knew what the assembly was about and I planned the PowerPoint to go with it, I was still appalled and quite upset about how the animals were treated.
We weren’t allowed to show any ‘gruesome’ pictures on the PowerPoint which is really hard to do on something like this because to show an animal being killed or treated cruelly is gruesome.
Despite all this, the assembly was quite a success!

During the half term holidays, I visited the distant island called Sri Lanka. After 2 exhausting flights, we landed in the Colombo Airport. Since it was Vesak, we saw lots of Vesak lanterns swaying in the wind on the way to my Grandparents house. When we arrived there, we were confronted by Cooper, their dog, and hundreds of mosquitoes. This was the start to my Half term holidays, during which, I rode an elephant, stroked a porcupine, went to several Buddhist temples and saw a giant Buddha. I also saw my relatives in Colombo and had a great time. Sadly I had to depart, but I will always remember the experiences I gained.

The World Cup has commenced and everyone is supporting their own countries. I am supporting South Korea, and on the 13th of June, there was a match between South Korea and Greece. Although South Korea won by 2 goals to nil, I was quite disappointed by the fellow Kiwi referee, because he was quite biased towards South Korea.
On the same day, there was also a match between England and the U.S.A in the evening. Gerrard scored a goal only in 4 minutes! However, the match did not turn out as well as how the match turned out for Korea, because England and U.S.A drewre.
Because of that, I don’t think people at school celebrated the victory as much as I did !

Approximately this time, last year, I came into KEHS, very, very nervous and worried. It was admissions day. I didn’t know anyone at KEHS, and I didn’t know if I would make any good friends. We were sorted out into forms in the hall, and everyone seemed to be chatting to people they seemed to know. Nobody from my school came into KEHS with me, so I didn’t have anyone to talk to.
This week, on 29th of July, it is the admissions day for the new thirds. I think I will be much more sympathetic towards the new thirds because I have had the same experience, and the same nervous feeling. Hopefully, my new third will be put at ease and feel comfortable about coming here!

The Battle of the Sun by Jeanette Winterson (best known for her adult book “Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit”) tells the story of a boy called Jack who is kidnapped by the Magus whose ambition is to turn London in to a city of gold. The Magus thinks that Jack will help him, however Jack has other plans. His mother tries to rescue him but is stopped in her tracks by the Magus. Then Silver, the girl with the golden face, helps Jack seek his powers to defeat the Magus.
I liked the plot because it was inventive and adventurous. Compared with other books it was a page turner for me. She shows the personality and feelings of each character in detail. The way she built up the tension of what was about to happen was extremely impressive. For example, a quote from the end of chapter 3, “He was a man; that is, he was a woman…that is, he was a man and a woman, that is, he was…he was…WHAT…???” I really enjoyed the book because I could see the action in my head and I felt as if I was transported to another place; I sensed I was a character in the book. The book had no faults for me.
My favourite character was the protagonist, Jack. He was enthusiastic and conscientious about each task that was ahead of him. Even though he was occasionally down in the dumps he knew what was required of him and gave it all his effort.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is over the age of nine and likes to stretch their reading ability because the language is quite difficult to understand but you can follow the story through the dialogue. Before you read this book read the first in the series Tanglewreck.
